Human Rights Festival Programme Launched

The Northern Ireland Human Rights Festival (NIHRF) has officially launched it’s 2019 programme of events. The Festival, which runs in venues across Belfast and Northern Ireland from Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th December is a collaboration of various charities, NGO’s, academics, artists and other organisations who wish to create awareness and support across a range of human rights issues in Northern Ireland and internationally.

From immersive theatre to stand-up comedy, from talks and discussions to kids’ art workshops and book readings, the festival has a wide range of events and human rights issues to explore. Of particular relevance this year are events on the ongoing challenges faced by the Climate Crisis, Brexit, Mental Health, Homelessness and Transgender rights among many others.

Kevin Hanratty, Director of the Human Rights Consortium, which runs the festival said,

“This festival has always been focused on creating a gateway between the public and a range of human rights issues. Through events that are accessible and topical we hope that our engagement and understanding of rights as a society can continue to develop. This year we have changed the branding of our festival to reflect the fact that rights are the silent threads that weave their way through our society. Protecting us when we need them and acting as a common denominator between different communities. There is something in the festival for all ages and interests and we hope that the public continue to engage in these events and help us to celebrate human rights.”
